Buttigieg Says No ‘Compatibility’ Between Trump And Christians

On Tuesday night, former South Bend, Indiana, mayor and Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg said he can’t understand how any Christian would support President Donald Trump, suggesting there is no “compatibility” there.

“Do you think it is impossible to be a Christians and support this president?” CNN’s Erin Burnett, serving as moderator, asked Buttigieg.

“I’m not gonna tell other Christians how to be Christians,” the former mayor responded. “But, I will say, I cannot find any compatibility between the way this president conducts himself and anything I find in scripture.”

Buttigieg, who is openly gay, has advocated for abortion up until the moment of birth. Earlier this month, while appearing on “The View,” the Democrat refused to denounce the murder of the unborn post-birth, or infanticide. The Daily Wire reported:

“It obviously in my circles was passed around everywhere because, I think, the interpretation from pro-life people like me was that you meant a baby actually being born and then possibly you know there’s a lot of controversy with Governor Northam and what it means and what time a woman should be able to have an abortion,” [co-host Meghan] McCain said. “I just wanted you to clarify because I found that statement to be pretty radical.”

[…] “But what if a woman wanted to, I don’t know, invoke infanticide after a baby was born, you’d be comfortable with that?”

“Does anybody seriously think that’s what these cases were about?” Buttigieg lashed out.

“There are people pushing for that, yes,” McCain noted.

Buttigieg responded by refusing disavow infanticide.

“Think, think about the situation, if this is a late-term situation, then by definition it’s one where a woman was expecting to carry the pregnancy to term, then she gets the most perhaps devastating news of her life,” Buttigieg responded. “We’re talking about families that that may have picked out a name, may be assembling a crib, and they learn something excruciating and are faced with this terrible choice, and I don’t know what to tell them morally about what they should do; I just know that I trust her and her decision medically or morally isn’t gonna be any better because the government is commanding her to do it in a certain way.”

President Donald Trump, on the other hand, has continuously supported the pro-life movement, which is highly important to Christians across the nation. For example, Trump was the first president to deliver in-person remarks at the annual pro-life March for Life.

Moreover, as outlined by Russ Vought in a Daily Wire op-ed, Trump has supported the pro-life cause in other ways, like reinstating and expanding the Mexico City Policy and prohibiting Title X grantees from referring patients for elective abortions:

Within weeks of taking office, President Trump did not just reinstate the Mexico City Policy to stop foreign aid from subsidizing organizations that perform abortions; he went even further, applying the policy to more funding streams and more foreign aid activities than has any other president. Last September, at the opening of the 74th United Nations General Assembly, he announced, “Global bureaucrats have no business attacking the sovereignty of nations that wish to protect innocent life,” making it clear to the world that our support for the sanctity of life doesn’t stop at the water’s edge.

President Trump prohibited Title X grantees from referring patients for elective abortions and prevented their physical co-location with abortion providers. As a result, Planned Parenthood quit the program, cutting off its access to hundreds of millions of dollars in taxpayer funding. He issued a robust conscience rule in order to ensure, among other things, that those who care for us when we are ill are not forced to perform or encourage abortion. Moreover, the president has just finalized a rule to stop insurers from quietly billing taxpayers for abortion services, ending an Obamacare loophole that left pro-life taxpayers unwitting accomplices to the violation of their conscience. He has also restricted the use of fetal tissue from elective abortions in government-funded medical research.
